Tim House was Skipper for the day and was determined to set the tone for the rest of the season. Hunt for the win, be ruthless but do it but with a smile on your face 😀. Opting to bat first, Nick Moorman and Mark Ford-Langstaff were sent to open our 2018 account.

Both batsmen set a strong solid foundation with Mark falling just before drinks at 85-1. Nick looked set for a hundred and Mark fifty but both were out to the same spinner mistiming their respective shots. From there the rest of the batting faithful chipped in posting a respectable 187-7.

After an absolutely sumptuous tea provided by the Cranston Family (esp the flapjacks!) The Min’s openers strode our to chase down the formidable target. They faced a fiery Tim Cranston who quickly demolished and finished the opposition top and middle order taking 4 wickets quickly. Messrs Pettit, Watson, Vadivale and Simpson took a wicket apiece to reduce the Min to 8 wickets with 12 overs left.

We tried everything to get the final two wickets but were met with resolute defiance and a straight bat.  Brilliant though the club vice-captain’s leadership was, we missed the bowling of the club skipper. So a draw to open the season but lots of promise.

At the end of the day sunshine, good company, great tea, delicious barbecue and beautiful surroundings. Always look on the Bright Side of Life!!
